Most fad diets nowadays include eating greens and eco-friendly food. Most of the time, meal planning can be dreary when it comes to choosing a variety of the right kind of food. Less meat seems to be the normal thing to do, but the demand for pork in restaurants has surprisingly reached a record high.
One of the healthy eating lifestyles that seems to be making some noise is the Paleo Diet. The Paleo Diet is sometimes referred to as the “Caveman Diet”. This is called such because it advocates eating the foods eaten by the people during the Paleolithic era some 2.5 million years ago. Paleo meals include fresh fruits, raw vegetables, lean meats, and eggs with minimal intake on carbohydrates such as grains and cereals. So basically, in order to follow the Paleo way, more protein-rich food needs to be consumed.
In a book called “Paleo Diet for Athletes” by Loren Cordain and Joe Friel, both experts pointed that the normal modern American consumes way too much dairy products, carbohydrates, and sugars. To their detriment, many americans are eating lesser nutrient-dense seafood, lean meats, raw vegetables, and fresh fruits.
Arguments continue to ensue among the vegetarians and the Paleo advocates. Meat-lovers pointed out that consuming meat could possibly be more environmentally healthy compared to the vegan alternative. We all know that soy is a staple food among the vegetarians. Its increasing popularity has been responsible for intense deforestation in some countries like Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina and is very processed. Dairy products like cheese, as compared against pork and chicken, may possibly be worse for the environment. Farm animals that thrive on grass are significant part of the sustainable agriculture because grazing promotes plant growth. Also, Paleo-based foods are healthier compared to non-Paleo-based food like cereals because they produce more greenhouse gas emissions.
While facts help better educate us about the diet, the only way to really judge the Paleo diet is by trying it yourself! It won’t hurt you! Give it a shot!
