According to research, one in four elderly woman who suffered a broken neck or thigh bone (femur) from a fall could die in the hospital, this is related to bone strength.
“Osteoporosis should be taken seriously and prevented as much as possible,” said Dr. Miriam Stoppard in his book Family Health Guide.
Osteoporosis, she added, occurs when estrogen and progesterone levels drop after menopause because bone mass begins to lose up to 3% per year. At the age of 80 years, one can easily lose half the mass of bones.
“If you are age 50 and over, bending the spine (kyphosis) and reduced height should be given special attention,” added Doctor Miriam.
